Kalshi's sports contracts are blocked in Michigan. On 1 September 2026, Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina issued a preliminary injunction barring Kalshi from offering, facilitating or advertising internet sports wagering in the state, and requiring it to geofence Michigan residents and anyone physically in Michigan from its sports contracts.
The order targets sports; Kalshi's other markets are not covered by it.

Michigan argues Kalshi's sports contracts are unlicensed sports betting. Kalshi says they are federally regulated derivatives outside state gaming law (how Kalshi argues it is legal).
A side fight: the problem-gambling charity
The Michigan Gaming Control Board withdrew from the National Council on Problem Gambling after the nonprofit accepted a partnership with Kalshi, an unusual public break that shows how far the dispute has spread.
What Michiganders can still trade
- Politics: Michigan's own races and national control of Congress (2026 election odds).
- Economics, weather and culture: Fed decisions, inflation, Detroit temperatures.
- Sports: through Michigan's licensed sportsbooks, not prediction markets, while the order stands.
